SSE, yesterday and today We’re sorry, our energy tariffs are temporarily unavailableEDF, yesterday seemingly not possible to get quote results directEon Next direct and Sainsburys Energy, super 2 year fixed rates with no exit fees0

If they don't want to give quotes to individuals, what will their response be if asked to act as SOLR after the collapse of a failed small supplier?0

I noticed yesterday that compare the market was offering me just one tariff 'choice'.
Uswitch was offering me 2 options that they could switch me to, if I enabled the option of it showing me tariffs they couldn't switch me to themselves, it showed huge numbers of tariffs, some of which from non-trading suppliers too!
The energy market seems to be in a big mess right now. I guess it's understandable the suppliers are just withdrawing tariffs while they work out what they can do. It's not really going to work if we all are on tariffs that have rates lower than this winters wholesale costs.0 -
AFAIAA Ofgem has the power to compel an energy company to take on the failed suppliers customersspot1034 said:If they don't want to give quotes to individuals, what will their response be if asked to act as SOLR after the collapse of a failed small supplier?
However in such a scenario the tariff those customers would be offered is virtually certain to be extremely expensive due to the lack of competitive tendering
I am definitely not looking forward to finding out the tariff we will be on for our 2 UP accounts0 -
This is very worrying. I read on BBC about a fire at a pilon in France that send electricity to UK and this is put up the cost of electric.0

The Mirror is reporting that its the mass withdrawal of fixed deals that has caused Compare the Market to cease providing quotes. I have to wonder now if Ofgem is being lobbied by energy companies to allow the premature ending of current fixed deal contracts (without penalty) or risk the collapse of a significant percentage of the energy market with the jobs lost and pressure placed on the remaining companies in relation to a growing number of SoLR's. Never mind lobbying to axe the cap! Either that or the pain is delayed until April 1st - which won't be an April Fools Joke!
It's a very worrying development, particularly for those who are now going through SoLR or those who could face the prospect shortly. Alongside all the social consequences for what is to come.1 -
If entered into a fixed rate contract it's legally binding. Absolutely nothing Ofgem can do to change that.

What use will the legal binding be if the supplier has gone bust?Swipe said:If entered into a fixed rate contract it's legally binding. Absolutely nothing Ofgem can do to change that.
