Atom Bank "connected account"?

When Atom Bank say you need to "connect" your existing current account to your account(s) with them, is this just a hand-wavey roundabout way of saying that, like most normal banks, they need your account details to make withdrawals/transfers from your Atom Bank account back into your current account, and to set up a standing order or Faster Payment setup to pay from your current account into the Atom Bank account? Or do they actually mean that they want to latch on to your current account through Open Banking (which I'm not keen on as information about my current account transactions in general should be absolutely none of the business of any other banks)?

  • Yes. It is more a linked account, than a connected one.

They do not use Open Banking for transactions. That's more your Tandem savings method.
  • Thanks for clarifying, both of you! :)
