slightly dodgy plastering job

Whilst this post is still trending can I ask if I need to do anything to the sanded area (I think now it is filler rather than plaster) before painting with matt paint?  Any priming, sealing, undercoat, etc. 0 can I ask if I need to do anything to the sanded area (I think now it is filler rather than plaster) before painting with matt paint?  Any priming, sealing, undercoat, etc. 0

A mist coat or two would be a good idea.
Water down paint anywhere up to 50%.2

Take a small amount of the emulsion you intend to use to paint the ceiling. Water it down say 50:50, and use this toe prime the area. Give it a couple of coats, allowing time to dry in between. Then paint. A couple of coats at full strength will probably be needed depending on the quality of paint.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Did the handyman use his white cane to apply the filler/plaster ? Or a catapult.0

I've no idea to be hnest as I was working in another room. Will this affect my sanding?
Can I also verify the 120 grit sandpaper rhroughout or do I need to start there and finish with something finer? If the latter is it a case of removing the very slight hump with 120 THEN using a sandpaper to work on the texture, OR removing most but not all of the very slight hump with 120 then working up to increasingly fine sandpaper as I remove the last of it?0

120 should be fine. You'll find that the grit will fill with dust as you use it, so it'll become less 'gritty'! (So keep tapping it clear to start with). Also by reducing the sanding pressure you'll get a finer finish. Once it's had a couple of neat coats of paint, it should be fine. It might even end up the smoothest part of the ceiling (now, that's annoying...)1
