Is there a reason the workforce has been resistant to necoming organised and represented?
Please don't say they grudge a few quid a month.

Oh I feel for you, Jill. I was fortunate enough to leave the public sector and have a late career change. Then I got the opportunity to retire early just as my health became a concern. I'm much better health wise and so glad I'm done with the stress and strain of work. If I could find a nice, undemanding part time job I might consider it but otherwise that's me done. I wish being a file clerk was still a thing, sitting in a little office meticulously punching and filing. Sigh.

It's a real shame that you, @Savvy_Sue and I can't set up an advisory service for the under-appreciated. Oh, hang on......!

I hope your exit strategy goes to plan - I'd say you'll deserve it!

Well they could try to sack me.  That didn't go so well for the last one who tried.  Which they know.... can't figure out why they are so scared of me. But I'm looking forward to (a) them trying and more likely (b) retiring,  leaving the country and spending time in the sun with my grandchildren
Good for you. Make their pips squeak! Your retirement plan sounds a great one so I hope its not too far in the future. I also hope you'll keep posting as your advice here is really valuable.

And the brown stuff has started to hit the revolving thing ...

    Won't say more ...

As it happens, I saw what looks like a lovely job I could do, fewer hours, not a bad location. I wouldn't have to get another job if it became unbearable, but that's tempting!
Ah, much as expected then. Wise to keep schtum. The lovely job sounds interesting, why not go for it? Nothing to lose by applying. Unless it's the lovely job I've just applied for, in which case, I don't need the competition!

Hope your weekend is restful 😀

In the organisation I was with, it was voluntary sector with the workforce very scattered in small teams between different settings. So although I could harass persuade my own team it would be a good thing for them to consider,  there was no communication with other teams to find out what the areas of resistance were.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I need to sit out 11 months for every penny. I can outlast them...

Honestly,  I don't know. If I were in a client facing role, I wouldn't want to enter the workplace without membership.

But historically, it's been a great place to work. I only joined because there was a brief bit of nonsense brewing a few years ago,  but sense prevailed then.
