How do I enable trackpad on Asus laptop

The trackpad on my Asus X75VC laptop has stopped working
The drivers are still there
I have tried F9 with no sucess
I seem to remember a tap on the trackpad used to do something - but not any longer
Any ideas ?

With my old Asus I had it set to be disabled when I plugged the mouse in.
Can't remember how I did it, but maybe something like that is happening?

I have fully uninstalled the trackpad and let it reinstall it on reboot and it has started working again
    Thanks
