Anglian quote

We have moved into a bit of a project for a house. Large 1930s former PO. Roughly 10m square, 6m floor to gutter. Small single storey extension that wraps around one corner of the building, 7m x 7m.

Anglian initially quoted £13k to completely replace the fascias, soffits and guttering. The salesman on the initial call came down to £10k and I thought that was just too much.

In the following weeks, they called me no less than 7 times for "feedback" then offered to visit the house for a "last ditch attempt" to get my business. The long and short of that was a reduction in price to £7.9k. Then another "last ditch" phone call last night brought it down to £7.5k.

I was impressed with both presentations and the products. They seem to have rave reviews on Trustpilot too.

Does this price seem excessive or about right?? I had another quote from a local roofer that was £5k+VAT but they wanted to cap over onto the existing timber whereas Anglian strip everything out and replace.

It is Anglian Windows (Home Improvements). It goes without saying that the price is going to be excessive. They have salesman bonuses to pay out, marketing/advertising costs, a massive legal dept to fund, and then there are all the junkets they put on for their staff around the country. Someone has to pay for all of this - Namely you.

Shop around, get some quotes from local roofing companies. Also look at any other jobs that need doing whilst scaffolding is up (if it is used). If the roof is in poor condition, it would be sensible to have the fascia/gutters done in conjunction with any roof work - Gives you the opportunity to paint the outside as well if it needs doing.

If they can knock £5.5k off the price, what does that tell you.
  • As plumb1 have said They can knock off 5.5K which means it was overpriced in the first place. I would ask a local trader to quote as an example We had our house & neighbours house fitted with new gutters/fascias/soffits for £2800 (3 bed semi) & they live in our estate so not far to go to complain.
  • your old nanna would have agreed to the first quote because that's what they thought was right . Rip off isn't a word I use lightly and theyre not alone in this practice . Should be banned from trading . I own a window company so know how these work . Ive just completed a whole house for £7k that Anglian quoted £55k for . Down to £30k down to a managers special of one day only £14k . Then we must be a bunch of cowboys being so cheap .
