Faulty cot

We were gifted a furniture mamas and papas set in 2018. Our daughter is now 2 and this past weekend we tried to move her cot/toddler bed out of her room and into ours in order for our baby to use it. My husband followed the instructions and one railing side completely ripped off and is now unusable.
I contacted the store it was bought at to enquire about a replacement and they took details including pictures and informed mamas and papas to start a warranty claim. They came back to me earlier today to say mamas and papas will not do anything as it is now out of warranty.
Is there anything I can do, do I have any rights? Or am I just to chalk this up to really bad luck?

It's out of warranty and there's a good chance you have no warranty rights anyway because it was a gift. Consumer rights rest with the purchaser and warranty rights probably do, too, unless the terms permitted transfer.1

Yes, you do have rights.
As Aylesbury Duck says, the person who purchased it would probably have to chase it.
But whoever did purchase it may be able to make a claim under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 because everything we buy has to be fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. Whether it's out of warranty or not.
Citizens Advice can help further - there's some info about the Act from their website here -

and also here, from which magazine - https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act-aKJYx8n5KiSl
I guess it depends on how long a cot is expected to last - but I really would expect it to last longer than the two years your daughter has been using it. It's not of satisfactory quality and it's not fit for purpose.
All is not yet lost and it won't cost you - or the person who purchased it - anything to make a claim. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Thanks. Its also a cot/toddler bed so it should definitely last longer than the 2 years it has.

Strictly speaking, you don't have consumer rights with the cot, and the person who bought it would have to chase it on your behalf. See if they're prepared to do so.MalMonroe said:Yes, you do have rights.
