Commercial property in Residential area council tax reduction

A vacant council property, formerly a security office, has been taken over by a commercial business. This is in a residential area. This happened to a family member previously and, as it was in a residential area, all of the residents received a reduction in council tax.
But before contacting the council, I wondered if anyone knew if this still happens? Is this correct etc. Any advice would be welcome 🙂

On what grounds? Their properties were devalued by the conversion substantially enough to affect the banding?1

The Valuation Office Agency deal with CT banding, not the council.
Unless there is a physical change to the office, they have no right of appeal. Further just because there is a non residential property in a residential area, it does not automatically mean there would be a CT band reduction. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1
