Applying for Santander student account: Accepted first time but rejected second time

Was wondering if anyone has been in a situation where they applied for a current account and were accepted but then declined when they applied a second time. Was helping a friend apply for a student accocunt at Santander. They were accepted a few weeks ago however they didn't have ID yet (was waiting for it to arrive) and due to this the application was cancelled as time had run out. They then applied again recently but were declined with Santander saying that it was due to their credit report from Experian. Just seems a bit weird for this to happen. I know it might be because applying for a current account seems to require a hard check but still seems unfair for a young person as they wouldn't have had the chance to build up their credit report.

Anyone experienced this? Would it be wise to try other student accounts? Don't want them to end up with a bad credit report due to to many applications especially if they get declined again as this would appear on their report.

Lots of people have experienced it. It could be any number of reasons from history, to change in criteria, to the repeated application. But ultimately, they're not meeting the criteria.

Tell them to apply with another lender. No decline will appear on their report, just a search.
