Outstanding billing dispute with PFP Energy

Hello all.

Long story short, I have transferred my utility supply to PFP Energy in Jauary this year.

They have made up an absolutely out of blue sky Gas meter read which has put my account in to debt by several hundred pounds. They called it an industry read whatever that may mean

They have dragged their feet for half a year without getting it resolved. I have thake them to the Ombudsman this July and now the Ombudsman has written to me saying the complaint is closed as PFP are out of business.

Any idea what will happen now? There is a debt of £785 showing on my PFP account a large portion of which I believe is made up.

I have cancelled the direct debit a couple of day ago as I don't want to be transferring any money to the firm in administration and I am not a customer odf which (was transferred to British Gas a few days ago)until my billing issue is fully resolvded.

But now my bill on their portal is showing as overdue...

I am also afraid of them damaging my credit history.

Any constructive advice would be appreciated.

Advice is not to cancel your DD when a supplier goes bust .
You gave readings in January upon moving ??and these are the basis of wrong amounts ?
The guys in the Energy forum may have the best advice .
  • I had a similar problem with PFP until an electrician did an eirc in April, he said that my storage heaters were 'live' at midday and shouldn't be, so then I reported back to PFP. I went through resolver but PFP were ignoring or stalling, then apparently someone kept closing the case without it being resolved. Luckily there was a good op that said they would look at my historical bills and I ended up with nearly 2k back as had been overpaying due to a fault for ages. This was the beginning of August this year so am relieved it was sorted before they collapsed. I had contacted the ombudsman as well after another op made out they didn't owe me any money. Then PFP said that they had lost invoices strangely. A day later I got a proposal offer from PFP and I never got an assigned ombudsman person as I accepted their offer. I did get an email from the ombudsman after PFP went bust saying they were no longer able to help due to PFP going bust. I know if you are in credit your new provider has to honour it but they are not obligated to take on existing disputes so unsure where you stand. Are you able to contact the citizens advice bureau? I know it's exhausting, hope you get it resolved.

I don't see how your energy supplier is responsible for your faulty equipment.  If you've used the energy, you need to pay for it.

Possibly because the energy supplier/network is responsible for the time-switch/radio teleswitch that turns storage heaters on and off. You are not permitted to tamper with this, even if it's costing you money (as above) or accidentally giving you Economy 7 rates in the day for 7 hours -- saving you money.

Pretty sure you're allowed to turn them off.

I am only guessing but industry read - is that an actual reading of your meter by a meter reader?

Now if I may ask a few questions...

    1) was this "meter reading" the transfer over to PFP, if so did they provide the same reading to your previous provider.
    2) if the reading is so out of range, what's your reading now? has it caught up with the reading?  If it hasn't then as meters don't go backwards ask for a rebilling.  Eg the from the meter reading at transfer (if this over read reading is not the transfer read) to todays reading.
