Thanks everyone, the canon pixma mg2550s mentioned by another member would be ideal, Amazon have it at £39.95, well within my budget, GDB2222, yes, it has windows 10 installed.

You might be better with a small laser printer if you only want to print in black and that'd be better than an inkjet as they cost more per page and if not used very often the (very expensive) cartridges dry up0

The canon pixma mg2550s looks quite good but it does have a bigger footprint than a small laser printer:
canon pixma mg2550s width 426mm depth 306mm height 145mm
HP LaserJet Pro M102a width 364.7mm depth 247.3mm height 190.6mm
The laser comes with a 700 page mono toner cartridge that might last you three years at a hair under 20 page a month and replacements cost perhaps £57 for genuine HP with 1600 page capability or £29 for a compatible one. This laser model doesn't have scan and photocopy capability, unlike the Canon. The £139.99 HP Laser MFP 135w does.
Original Canon black cartridges cost perhaps £41 and compatible £36 for only 400 pages.
Per-page price and cartridges drying out before you even get to use all of the pages is where you pay the printing price for inkjets, while laser toner lasts for many years, never yet had any expire on me. You don't use many pages a month so this might not matter too much except for the drying out issue.
I've used both including colour lasers and won't go back to inkjets because the lasers just reliably work when needed, unlike the often dried out inkjets. But it's undeniable that lasers cost more initially and you don't recoup that except for the dryout issue at low page printing rates.

GDB2222 If you decide to buy a Canon printer, buy it direct from the Canon UK website. Their prices are cheaper than Amazon. I recently bought a printer from them for £30. The same model was up to £58 on Amazon. Canon offer free delivery in 3 - 5 working days. The majority of printers sold nowadays tend to be wireless only.
