  • I have just tried to switch to one of the best buy Sainsbury dual fuel tariffs and it looks like they don't want me for gas. After I accepted a quote I was asked to select my address and the message "Looks like you only need electricity" popped up.
  • I'm on a variable tariff with Octopus - but it's not available in the dropdown on the MSE energy club...
Sent a message to support a week ago but no reply still...

I recall reading about someone else who had similar and the remedy was phoning Sainsbury's up and they tweaked something that enabled both supplies to be recognised/accepted.

    No its not .

I'm puzzled to see this comment, 'No it's not'. My deal with Avro had to be renewed just a few weeks ago, I had been paying £123 a month this past year. I couldn't believe when they quoted me £174 a month, I thought, well I'm not staying with them. However, using the cheap energy comparison website it turned out to be the cheapest one. So I am stuck with them and yes, my bills have gone up by £600 a year. I can't figure it out, everyone is talking about bills going up, but by this much?! My husband and I are retired and at home all the time, but we have been for a number of years - nothing new, it's just unbelievable. In fact, we got a new boiler last year and they said our bills would go down, how wrong was that.

What you pay per month is irrelevant unless you are comparing exact like for like usage in KWh for gas and elec. It might be that you have been under paying at £123 and £174 is adjusting for that.

But the JJ_Egan comment has some truth in it, for many who have locked into fixed deals before this problem erupted there is no change, for example I locked in to a 12 month on elec and 24 month on gas in August so I'm not going to see any change unless my suppliers go bust.

Phone them up. This happened to me as well, and they said they were having computing systems. Had 30 min wait on phone, however they fixed the computer issue a few hours later. Would do this as I think the Sainsbury deal is one of the best currently.
  • We were with E.ON with a dual fuel 12 month fix that ended on 6 November. The rate was £58 per month. At the weekend we came within the 50 days remaining, so I checked for a quote to fix for a further 2 years. I bagged a new fix with E.ON at £83 per month, cheaper than other offers in the comparison that I checked (MSE Energy Club). We locked it in.

Having taken another look this morning, they’ve reviewed their tariffs again and that same 2 year fix would now cost £100 per month from E.ON. Going early and locking in saved us nearly £20 a month. It’s awful that others won’t be as lucky. Do a comparison now, is the moral of the story…

It might be worth checking to see how much you are in credit with Avro, as that's quite a leap in price. Also, the next time you have an annual boiler engineer check up, ask the engineer if any settings can be adjusted to save some money.
