Received debt collection letter

Need some advice, I stayed at a hotel and gave my car registration  details on checking in, but a few weeks later received a parking fine. I emailed the company informing them I had given the hotel my car registration and proved proof of my reservation but they have upheld the fine. I then went back to the hotel, they took copies of the paperwork and said they would contact the car parking company. Stating that they had other complaints about this company. Yesterday I received a debt collection letter, the fine has now increased, so armed with the letter I went back to the hotel who have taken copies of the letter and once said they will deal with it. I phoned the debt collection agency yesterday who have given me until tomorrow to pay, the fine goes up after this plus it goes against my credit rating. I've tried but can't get through to citizens advice.

It is not a fine, it does not affect your credit history unless they take you to court and win, which is highly unikely  Please read the newbies and complain to your MP.

Also consider writing bad reviews on TripAdvisor, Trivaggo, bookilng.com, hotels, com at alm and never ever engage with a debt collector and never phone a PPC.   Do npt bother contacting CAB.  They are  almost useless wrt PPCs

All of this is fuly explained in the newbies.

Keep at the Hotel, it is their mistake to put right.  Never phone debt collection agencies.  Your credit history/file/report will not be affected unless and until you have been to court and lost and then failed to pay what the judge ordered in the time scale set by the judge.  Debt Collectors cannot take you to small claims court.
  • Thank you for your advice, wish I hadn't phoned them but its been done. I emailed the hotel last night, and if I don't get a reply I will email again and keep pestering them. I think the should pay the fine and then try and claim the money back.

    I don't !! Once paid it's likely gone forever !!

Keep mithering the hotel etc , plan A is ALWAYS the best option , complain
  • I really strongly advise not to pay a debt collection agency. Scammers who depend on fear, just like parking companies. Take a deep breath and realise that they cannot arbitrarily affect your credit files. This is not a debt unless and until a court says it is ! The "fee will go up tomorrow" is a typical scare tactic. As others have said, keep on at the Hotel. They are the ones who will lose business if the PPC keep this sort of thing up. Unfortunately, debt company paper is far too scratchy to put to the obvious and appropriate use .

Nonononono.  It’s not even a fine!

And more NO!  Please...  Stop phoning the debt collector pointless firm!  They are not bailiffs, can’t come knocking, it is not a fine and you are taking them far too seriously. Stop contacting the debt crawlers.
