This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Really good to see more posters on this thread.
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, cloudy start and showers forecast, cooler though.
DH and DS1 up and getting ready for work. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/veg/rice, beans. Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be eating but I have a good few bits in so need to choose and start getting some of the bulging cupboards emptied.
The week didn't get off to the best start as I had to work from my other office and I got a puncture part way there, but couldn't get the nuts undone on the wheel so had to wait for breakdown, tyre unrepairable so £137 later I managed to get to work but they rearranged so I could go to my normal office and be able to get my tyre sorted. Hoping today will go more smoothly.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. What a nightmare for you nmlc, I hope it's all sorted now.Yesterday my cleaner brought me a lovely bunch of flowers as a'thank you'. We then turned mattress together before she did anything else. The rest of my day was taken up with sorting out paintings and wrapping up the ones which have been asked for by family and friends. Some are very big! It took a lot of bubble wrap and parcel tape and time. There's a few more to do though they are not so big. I'm taking some with me when I go to Glasgow on Friday. I should end up with just four or five for posting though I have no idea what to do with the remainder. This morning I want to get to the CS in Oban at their opening time, I have five bags of books and two of other things for them. They have a quota to take each day so it's best to get there early. Later I've got an appointment with the audiologist to check my hearing aid (which I've not worn at all during my Glasgow years). I'm hoping to get a better aid, one which does something. The spare bedroom bed is almost clear of stuff. Just a few things are lingering so I'll deal with them this morning.Outside the skies look miserable, perhaps the sun will make a late appearance.Happy Tuesday to all.13

            Morning All
Wet and gloomy this morning, hoping it dries up later - children don't like being confined! Washing set to start an hour before I should get home, that can go on the rack once it's finished.
I managed to get hold of a decorator I was recommended last night, he's coming on Thursday to look at the living room. I also got a call from the boiler engineer who is coming next week when I have a day off. Just waiting to hear from the 'blind man' for the living room and bedrooms. The downstairs hasn't been decorated since it was refurbished about 5 years ago so I think it's time for a freshen up. If the painter does a good job of the living room I'll see about getting the kitchen done too.
I called for a garden visit with the little one for her birthday yesterday, she seemed to be happy but still not 100%, I suspect she has had covid and it's lingering.
Hope everyone has a good day, take care. XX12

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Hope you have a better journey to work this morning.
It's dark and dismal out there and heavy rain is forecast for later. Better root out my umbrella as it's my weekly Tuesday meet up for coffees and lunch with oldest friend. It will now be 69 years now since we met at school as 7 year olds! It only seems like yesterday! I don't think we will be sitting outside bathed in sunshine today! Maybe the rain will put people off and it will be quiet inside - I can live in hope!
I tackled the seasonal clothes swap over yesterday so I am already now for the colder months. Plus some more stuff went in a bag for the cs. I tried looking on line for trousers or jeans but there's far too much choice and I soon lost the will. I did however order a couple of jumpers from M & S so that's a start I suppose! We have such a dire selection of shops left in town I'd be surprised if I spotted anything I fancied in them.
I have (had) a big clump of Japanese Anemone running alongside the path to the back and the petals have been shedding thick and fast so I cut those back yesterday. It looks so bare without them. There is another big clump in the front garden so they will be next for the chop. Such a shame.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies and poorly loved ones. ROSY I hope you had a lovely anniversary yesterday. Take care one and all and be safe xx

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC, hope you've had a better beginning to your day today than you did yesterday. It's cloudy here, doesn't look too promising.Ok day yesterday, we had our hair done, then back home for a bit of garden weeding and tidying, well, DH did most of it while I did inside jobs. Dgd came for her tea, and wanted to make some cards afterwards - I was surprised as she seemed to have lost interest in cardmaking at the end of last year. Didn't matter though, I got some stuff out and she made a card or two.TA and Rosy, and anyone else who, like me, has difficulty keeping their trousers up - earlier this year I found some adjustable elastic belts on Ama*on. You can either fasten them with a slim metal buckle, or, you can clip them at either side at the front through the belt loops. I don't tuck things in, so the belt is hidden.Conventional belts don't work for me, and I'd made some with wide -ish elastic and fastening at the front, with "nurses" clip belt fastenings, but these are better..I can now wear trousers that I hardly wore because I was always hauling them up.. I'd still returned those others on Sunday though, as they seemed a bit short as well.Today I'm going to tidy my card making equipment, and start the ironing before it takes over the house.Camelot and DP1, hope your little granddaughters feel better soon.Nanny, hope you are perking up as well.Hope everyone has a good day - take care folks.13

            Morning everyone
Looks like it's been raining through the night but it's meant to brighten up later - fingers crossed - as Camelot said children need to be outside in the garden!
Pottered about and got a few jobs done after work and then had a nice long bath.
I don't start until 11.45 today - I have an online course to do for work so I will try to get that done. Will also ring mam in a bit and see if she wants me to go down and hoover for her, as her cleaner is on holiday this week.
I bought my first Christmas presents yesterday - a lovely book for little one - then I went back and bought another copy for the youngest of my great nieces. I'm planning to get little one a doctor's set - she'll love having her own stethoscope!
Right, going to do my banking. Hope everyone has a good day
Oh a gardening question - do I cut back my raspberry canes ( which produced no raspberries!) for the winter?13

Morning all! damp and miserable outside, cozy inside because I switched on the heating for an hour and it worked, so ha! take that boiler man! No £150 needed, just a few quid for batteries. I made a start yesterday on the clearing, started at the front door, cleared and tidied the shelves that are the repository for accumulated rubbish, moved the toilet rolls and emptied and refilled under the stairs, got rid of a quite a bit of cardboard and emptied a couple of boxes. Also chucked a couple of over the door hangers because they were also a repository for any old tat but left me with one set for my kitchen apron and bag. Next stop, food shelves in the lean to and surfaces there.Oh, and managed to be the victim of fraud yesterday. I have my account set up to alert me when any money is spent, and yesterday someone managed to book themselves a holiday for six hundred quid of my money. Fair play to the bank, they were on the ball, no quibbles about me being responsible at all, it helped the IP address was not mine and nowhere near me. So card cancelled, no more money missing, will be returned to me shortly. Luckily there is money to cover what was spent but if that had been someone else, they would have been having a very bad week. They said I had probably bought something on line and the merchants site was hacked. Not reassuring.Well done Florence! Happy belated anniversary Rosy welcome incognito sunflower...Izzy, that sounds like a right pita, having someone to look after and do everything else. Snoozer, bang on the money. If the OH had to run the house he'd have to start from scratch because he knows nothing about the insurances, council tax, mortage, havng the chimney swept, etc. I did try explaining the mental load thing to him last year and he agreed and then it went in one ear and out the other. I think that's why I was so peed off with cooking, it was just one extra thing on top. Potter away...Gers, yes, hearing aids essential, don't end up like a grumpy woman...engage engage! welcome incognito sunflower...Izzy, that sounds like a right pita, having someone to look after and do everything else. Good morning everyone
It's a bright and sunny morning here. I am showered and dressed and ready for the day. Steve got up with me and made me a lovely cup of tea and is about to go and make breakfast. Lee and Phoebe both have the day off today so I don't expect to see either of them until lunch time.
Lee had a good first day of college which is very promising. He has won student of the year for the past 2 years and is going for the hat trick this year.
Snoozer, I so agree with you about doing all the wife work. Steve has certainly got a load better since I have been ill and cleans and tidies the house without being asked but I still do all the admin, organize the shopping, meal plans and cooks, organizes Christmas and birthdays etc. It can get a bit much sometimes but on the whole we work together really well but it took a long time.
I am going to make fish pie for dinner to use up some of the potato mountain I have in the kitchen. It's not really my favourite but I am trying to make more space in the freezer. There is carrot cake for pudding if anyone wants some.
Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx14

            Morning all
Got back at 10 last night after just about 12 hours of travelling, we were exhausted to say the least and we were so glad to get the masks off after all that time.
The holiday was fantastic and much needed, we snorkelled and went swimming every day bar one, and explored the island on a little moped which we hired, plenty of lunches and dinners out and great food. The highlight for me was climbing up and over the Triptoli arch (Paxos) which was amazing although scary at the same time, we sat on the top and had a beer and watched the boats go by.
Back to reality now and I have started to unpack and got the first wash on the go there is plenty of washing to keep me busy, it will have to go in the TD today as its raining. The dogs were so pleased to see us and they both got a ball each so are happy playing with them.
OH is still asleep so will just leave him yesterday was exhausting so I may have a nana nap later. Got to get a food delivery at some point too. I fancy pizza and salad tonight so dd will pick that up later.
I hope everyone has been ok, will try to read back later.
Nels I hope your hands have been ok and not troubling you too much xx
I heard from Marie while I was away she had her hip replacement at the end of August and is hoping to be home soon.
Have good days all and stay safe xxx12
