How about an 0844 number that costs 2p/min to call?

Ok, not quite in the spirit of finding the cheapest call providers that some of us have managed, but still cheaper to those of your customers that don't know any.

But the BT Callsign sounds more interesting

I know. I think its a good idea of BT to come up with this. I am surprised that they would allow this for business use because of the revenue lost in not having two landline numbers and the associated rental charges.

I'd just check whether Callsign splits the line. If so it will halve dial-up modem speed if you use it.

I'm assuming Callsign works similiar to that of an 084x/087x where calls to the 084x/087x (or in this case the new number they issue) gets diverted (or something similiar) to your landline but not sure and just guessing.

Durain, can you post here more about what this pros/cons of the Callsign are as i'm curious now. Thanks

calls using the same pair, I used it for a while when I had a lodger here...it's the same price as a normal phone call to anyone who calls it, it's not a premium number or anything but it is only for incoming calls

BT's CallSign service lets you have two telephone numbers associated with your BT phone line and with BT TwinTalk you can decide which of your extensions will ring in response to the number dialed.

My broadband etc worked as normal

I'm surprised there are people who haven't heard of "Call Sign" distinctive ringing, it's not as if BT haven't been providing the service for very long.

The TwinTalk device is pretty good.

If you have broadband, Sipgate would be a good way to go, as that is free.

As with Call Sign you do have a 2nd incoming number, however when you dial out it will display your primary phone number, if you didn't want people to know your home number you would need to withhold it, this could be a problem as many people do not answer withheld number or have ACR.

Again if you have broadband you could use 1899 VoIP service which you can add any number you wish, and this will be the number displayed to the callee, also there is VoIP Buster who offer very good call rates, and issue an 0845 number which will be displayed to the callee.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

- I just went onto their site & on EVERY page it says:

For any further information on any of our products, simply complete the Enquiry form or call us now on:
Freefone 0800 619 2626

now u cant get better than a sales company offering you a FREEFONE number 2 call them on!!

u owe me (or them) an apology mate!!

Yes this company do offer a freephone number for you to purchase products. But if yo want to change/discuss anything after that they expect you to ring/fax 0871 contact no,s see the contact page on there site.(They dont tell you how much it is to call these numbers, alongside them. Why not?)

They also give misleading/incorrect information on there site about 0845/0870 numbers suggesting that calls to them are charged 0845 at (Local Rate),and 0870 at (National Rate).when they are not.
Nor do they bother to tell you that calls to them are usually much dearer from a phonebox,or mobile.

The reason they are able to provide them free is because they take a cut of the calls from your customers.!!

All i said in my OP was they used 0871 contact numbers, and there site confirms this.I see no reason to apologise to you,and particularly not to them.
PF.

for a company providing NGN and also 0800 number, how can they except people to fone them on 0870 or numbers they make money on, especially on their website they tell YOU how much you can earn on having a 0870 number!

as for me, i am ditching 0845 number and going for BT Call Sign. and with the BT Calling Features Pack, i can have 4 services for £3.50/month. for once i have to say... BT IS GREAT!!!

(on a minor bit about call sign... i cant choose a number. they are assign to me automatically)
