Mysterious Refund Offer Letter????

in Credit cards
Over the weekend I have received a letter from Barclaycard offering me a refund of almost £800 in respect of " we made a mistake with one or more statutory notice(s) "
It is correctly addressed, and quotes the last 4 digits of a closed account.
Everything seems legitimate, the paper is of a quality you'd expect. www addresses and phone numbers are correct. It even has a prepaid envelope included.
Everything that is until you read the terms which state I must sign the "Response Form" and include a copy of a Bank Statement for the account I want the money to be transered to.
This seems very suspicious, as when we received refunds for PPI, the Banks in question just sent out cheques.
Without that, to be honest, I'd probably have filled this in.
I've called Barclays but have had no sensible response from the call sender personnel to confirm or refute this offer.
If anyone can help confirm whether this legitimate I'd be grateful

Hi, reading the first part of your post I thought, 'oh yes, this sounds like when I was sent a refund by HSBC' out of the blue - since I've never banked with them but did have a credit card with John Lewis Finance, who were taken over by HSBC.
However, they DID attach a cheque to the bottom of their letter and it was a genuine payout.
As you say the worrying part is - "the terms which state I must sign the "Response Form" and include a copy of a Bank Statement for the account I want the money to be transferred to."
You are right to be concerned, don't do it.
What I'd do is write to the address on the letter they sent (if it's the same as on the prepaid envelope so much the better) and ask them to send you a cheque instead. If it's genuine, they will. If it's not genuine hopefully they will write and let you know.
But I'd definitely NOT send them copies of any documents at all, especially not bank statements. That just screams 'scam' to me.Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. I was offered £75 by Barclaycard two or three years ago, about an account closed several years earlier.
I forgot about it, then called them a few months later. They confirmed I could still claim, so I sent off the form.
Money in my nominated bank account in due course1
