Hi I've read through the newbie thread (I think) and just wanted some advice on what to do next.
I paid for parking at Salthouse pub in clevedon, bristol (I still have the original ticket) but for the last year have had numerous letters from debt collectors which I've ignored.
After 4 months of no letters I now have one from Gladstones for £170, with a threat of inflating the amount to £285 if I do not reply in 30 days.
Should I keep ignoring the letters or contest the charge? I have done this before with previous collectors, and all have been denied.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
L

Hello and welcome to the forums.
You appear to have received a Letter of Claim.
The first few paragraphs of the second post in the NEWBIES thread explain exactly how you should progress this issue from this point on.1

Of course you respond to an LBC. Please read the 2nd post of the NEWBIES thread about LBC stage.
Also, if there are two addresses held by the parking firm (ie if the first you knew of the PCN was after being traced by a debt crawler) you must email Gladstones AND the DPO of the parking firm and tell them to ERASE the old address and confirm to them which is your correct address for service.
You will know how to find the DPO email when you re-read the instructions in the NEWBIES thread about getting a SAR.
It’s only the 2nd post of the sticky thread that applies to your stage.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

WRT iheir esxcessive claim, they have added what appears to be an extra unlawful amount for debt collection. Judges have dismissed an entire claim because this. Read this and complain to your MP.Excel v Wilkinson At the Bradford County Court, District Judge Claire Jackson (now HHJ Jackson, a Specialist Civil Circuit Judge) decided to hear a 'test case' a few months ago, where £60 had been added to a parking charge despite Judges up and down the country repeatedly disallowing that sum and warning parking firms not to waste court time with such spurious claims. That case was Excel v Wilkinson: G4QZ465V, heard in July 2020 and leave to appeal was refused and that route was not pursued. The Judge concluded that such claims are proceedings with 'an improper collateral purpose'. This Judge - and others who have since copied her words and struck dozens of cases out in late 2020 and into 2021 - went into significant detail and concluded that parking operators (such as this Claimant) are seeking to circumvent CPR 27.14 as well as breaching the Consumer Rights Act 2015. DJ Hickinbottom has recently struck more cases out in that court area, stating: ''I find that striking out this claim is the only appropriate manner in which the disapproval of the court can be shown''. https://www.dropbox.com/s/16qovzulab1szem/G4QZ465V Excel v Wilkinson.pdf?dl=0 You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

What happened when you complained to the pub manager/owner/brewery CEO? It is never too late for a landowner cancellation.
