I just wanted to make people aware of my frustrations with my switch to Green Energy.
My opening electricity readings are the same as the closing readings of my previous supplier. However, my gas account has been started with an estimate of 0150 as opposed to the actual reading of 0282 (which was used to close my previous supplier's account). This has created a first account which is approximately £120 more than is correct. I have endured two protracted online chats with Green which have both assured me an amended account would be sent within 2 weeks. On both occasions I have received nothing 4 weeks later. I have sent a photograph of my gas meter reading. I have waited 40 minutes to speak to someone on the telephone who assures me they have corrected the reading but it still shows as 0150. I have submitted my next monthly reading as requested by Green showing tiny increase to 0289. I have posted a 1 star rating on Trustpilot with reasons why but have had no response.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could get this error amended please? I would also suggest caution in moving to this supplier.

The opening meter readings used by your new supplier must match the closing meter readings used by your previous supplier. Your new supplier is responsible to ensure thay are the same.ExElectricityBoard said:I just wanted to make people aware of my frustrations with my switch to Green Energy.

As you only quote 4 digit gas meter readings, then presumably you have an old imperial gas meter.
It won't be your new supplier that has changed the meter reading; they would have preferred to use the one you provided.
The difference between 0282 and 0150 is 132 imperial units, equivilent to about 4400 kWh.
That's quite a lot based on the meter readings. When did you first notice the meter had 'gone round the clock'???
Whether the matter is ultimately worth the ride is up to you.
Whilst you indicate that it means you owe the new supplier £120 more than you think they are due, waht you don't pay one supplier, you will end up paying the other (based on the applicable tariffs)
Sounds like you got a cracking gas tariff if it's only £120 for 4400kWh. thats about 2.72p/kWh
The best you could have been on previously was perhaps 2.0p/kWh, so the diffence is at worst little more than £30
But if you want, you can make a complaint. The matter should then enter the "disputed meter read" process. You may or may not get the readings you want at the end.
When did you get your last statement from your old supplier, and did that use an actual or estimated reading?
It would be unlikely for any typical domestic user to have consumed 4400 kWh in the last month (at this time of year), so that would make your final reading less than your last submitted reading used, if you were submitting regular meter readings.
Another reason to ensure you submit regular meter readings (or have a smart meter that does it for you) and ensure they are used.
Welcome to MSE, btw.

I switched from EDF to Green on 25th July more fool me. I too had constant problems with trying to get the reading correct. Also with protracted conversations with their operators.
They took a payment at the start of the switch and two since with the the net result being I now have a credit balance on my account of £236.04.
I suspect I will not be seeing that ever refunded to me.
The irony is I only switched to save £89
I fancy once I am given a new supplier I shall never bother with switching services, including MSE, again. It is just not worth the hassle.0 -
Saving money is worth the hassle. Only option is paying excessive amounts on variable tariffs with large electricity companies. Put it another way, if someone said "Here's £500 for switching suppliers, cash", would you say no? I wouldn't.We all know these tin-pot companies would fold at some point, they gambled on getting big enough to be interesting to the "Big boys" in order to sell up and make money for their investors, before going bust.Your credit will get repaid months away and in the meantime your electricity will not be cut off, so where's the risk?Yes, Green stopped replying to anything much a week or so ago, they owed me £30 for referrals which they stopped paying. Pity, Green looked like a decent risk until recently however of course they were trading on massive losses from the start.1
