£60.00 fine for motorway services overstay of 20 minutes despite breaking down there!

Hello all,

I drove into a services on my way home and hit a pot hole while entering a motorway services on the M6. When i parked my car i noticed my tyre on the front passenger side had lost air. I used a compressor but the tyre needed replacing.

I had to call out an emergency mobile tyre fitting company to get my car back on the road. The whole thing was very stressful but they got me back on the road 20 minutes after the 2 hour max stay.

Now i have an autistic child and we also needed a bite to eat. I have a receipt from the tyre fitter company for the date and time the ticket is issued. what's the best way to fight this?

many thanks in advance

So complaint to the CEO at welcome break , use the royal WE in the complaint , no I , we broke down etc , no revealing who was driving , but state that we broke down because , we called out the breakdown service , receipt copy attached , etc WE ,cWE , cannot stress that enough

Separately , appeal to parking eye , using the blue text template and add a note that we broke down because etc , attaching a copy of the tyre receipt to the appeal , no revealing who was driving

For now , word them such that nobody knows who was driving
  • UPDATE: Called the Services manager and he has agreed to get it cancelled. Thanks for the help!

It would have been easy to cancel with ParkingEye anyway because if you provided evidence of breakdown as part of your appeal, they’d have cancelled.

Not to sidetrack OP's thread - but are these national guidelines or is it just guidance for that particular local authority?

Like as everyone has already pointed so I reinforce it - complain to the Service Station management team and use receipts of any expenditure at services and also a reciept/ booking confirmation of the recovery service (i.e AA or E-Tyres or whatever you used).

That guidance relates to Council PCNs.
