Cazoo gave false information

Hello all,

Looking for thoughts on the following...
I found an electric car I wanted on Cazoo. In order to qualify for an interest free loan from Energy Saving Trust the seller has to be accredited with the motor ombudsman. Cazoo told me they were and I purchased the car using finance and submitted my application to EST for an interest free loan. My plan was to pay off the finance when the EST loan came through. I checked with the finance company and it was going to be okay to do this.
EST came back to me and said that Cazoo was not on the list of accredited garages. Cazoo said they were. I was in the middle of a back and forth for a few weeks and Cazoo eventually told me they were only partially accredited. EST had been right and they were unable to grant the loan. I am now looking at paying over £3000 in interest that I was not prepared to pay. I only bought the car and took the finance after being advised by Cazoo that they were accredited, if I knew from the start then I would not have purchased the car.
I have had several email exchanges with Cazoo for several weeks now - they were actually very good at the start with regard to delivery and minor damage issues but since the issue with the ombudsman came to light they have stopped responding.
Just wondering if I have any recourse here? I would like them to make a contribution towards the interest I now have to pay..
Alternatively legal recourse for giving false information?

Thanks all!

If they stated in writing that they WERE accredited and you made it clear to them (in writing) that the purchase was dependent on this then I would be looking at asking them to pay the entire £3000 interest or returning the car for a refund (less a reasonable deduction for usage so far).

How long have you had the car? Why couldn't you just wait until you got the load from EST to buy a car?

Did you check with EST that Cazoo was accredited with them before purchasing?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Wanted that particular car for a couple of years and it was a particularly good price. EST loan process could take a few weeks and I didnt want to lose it so I explained my plan to Cazoo and they confirmed with an email they were accredited. Checked with finance company I could pay it off and so went ahead.
After Cazoo stated quite clearly they were accredited I didnt think I needed to check with EST before submitting the application.
I have asked them to pay for the interest or at least contact me to discuss however they are blanking me.
I'm looking for guidance and advice on potential action I could take.
