Thai Airways Refund

Flight booked for March 2020. Cancelled by us a week before due to concerns regarding coronavirus. Was happy to pay cancellation fee. Refund confirmed by email but still no refund due to restructuring.
Tried to claim on travel insurance but because we chose to cancel they refused to pay. Tried section 75 as paid on credit card but also refused as it was a ticket bought for my husband on my credit card.
Still no refund. Total approx £1800.
Has anyone any other ideas or ways of finding out when refunds are likely to be issued.

What type of tickets did you book?  Cancellation by the booker is normally non refundable.

Thai have been one of the worst airlines for refunds, they have been teetering on bankruptcy. They paused all refunds in May 2020.(they owed about $750m)  Their restructure plan was approved in June 2021 and they said they would restart refunds.
from this thread someone updated at the end of June
"I rang Thai to ask about timeframe etc but it was all very vague with no specifics. Once refunds commence it will be order for flight cancellation but there is no estimate on when the process will actually commence."

The refund was confirmed by email, it was before the issues all began.

As Caz3121 points out, despite promises and fulfilling the need and obligation to refund against cancelled flights, Thai simply were not doing so. They did not have the money to do so.

I am really not sure if the airline's position has changed in recent months.  I don't recall anyone returning to up date existing threads on this forum or Trip Advisor to say either way if refunds now given.  Perhaps you could search out some of these threads and message posters in similar positions to see how they are faring.

Might also be worth Googling for news on the Thai media websites to see if there are updates about Thai's financial position.
  • Try a chargeback instead of S75.
