Please can any one give us advice on the correct course of action towards MFI?
The story goes that me and me wife foolishly chose MFI for a new Leather Sofa.
The problem with 4 days to go before delivery of our new sofa which was 10 days after arranging a delivery date, we received a phone call telling they no longer had any stock and unfortunately a discontinued model they were unable to honor the sale.
Clearly this is an unacceptable and unprofessional method of conducting business. So please help if anyone knows of a way to incur the maximum amount of grief and hassle on them for our inconvenience.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you and all the best

oops, unfortunately there isn't a lot you can do,they should of checked they had stock but apart from that I'm afraid you just have to find another sofa from somewhere else....................you can rebuke them by never buying from them again .
You can send a complaint in but it won't help you just now..........sorry.0 -
You could kick up a fuss with head office telling them how you have been inconvienced and disappointed you are with their service.
You might be able to get some vouchers out of them but as you don't want to shop there again they would not have much value but if it was me, I would then go and stand outside my local MFI and sell them at a slightly reduced rate to shoppers going in.0 -
my sympathies - exactaly the samr thing happened to me with next (there was a thread on this board called Next: I have no Bed!) for my bedroom furniture.
basically make a huge huge fuss.
I did managed to get a full refund (obviously - although it wasnt as easy as it sounded) £100 compensation and then the other day also got £135 in vouchers through the post.
I kept on until I managed to talk to someone at head office who had the authority to do something. Tell them you threw your old sofa out the day before or something - we actually had thrown out our bed - no fun at all!
You must be persistant - also did they take your payment when you ordered hence they have been holding your cash for goods they couldn't supply for 4 weeks. This could have cost you interest - they could ahve gained interest from it although these points may be small if you make a good case you have more chance of getting something back.
Best of luck!0 -
I am not sure if the law is still the same but I believe it used to be such that if you had paid for the item, you may be able to claim a refund of what you had paid as well as claiming for the extra amount you may now have to pay to buy the same item. I would certainly put a complaint in writing and remember to be specific in outlining not only the complaint but your expected resolution and timeframe. What you're talking about Claudie, is 'Loss of Bargain'. You may have a civil case to claim the increased cost of ordering the item from another supplier, if you can show that you have suffered (financially) as a result of the trader's failure to fulfil the contract (e.g. by having to pay a higher price elsewhere). Can normally be taken through small claims court.I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

Seen a similar story in a magazine last week. The complaint was directed to Lisa Hunter who is Customer Services Manager of MFI. Sorry I don't have an address for her......its probably MFI Head Office?? Hope this is a little helpful.0

OP, nothing seriously bad about this IMHO, they did phone you to let you know delivery wouldn't be coming. Unless You ordered it some time prior to you arranging the date of delivery. If you ordered it instore, and arranged delivery on the same day, I don't see the problem.
If you ordered it in store and a week or two later they phoned you to arrange delivery then delivery is cancelled, then that would be a slight lack of care on their part. These things do happen though the world aint perfect and they might have had something happen beyond their contol.
I can't see what compensation you are going to get or really what you're asking compensation for. A slight inconvenience.
Fluffymuffin above got compensation from Next, and rightly so given the utter crap service NEXT handed out. And the ludicrous refund they initially offered. Compensation rightly deserved.0 -
Hi, I too have had serious problems with furniture orders from MFI. Usual scenario of order placed, missing or damaged parts of the order, months to wait as the item is then out of stock, missed re-deliveries and around six months after the order was placed I eventually get the order completed. I tried the usual route of complaining through MFI's so called Customer Services and wrote many letters and e-mails requesting compensation for the delays and my own lost time waiting in for promised deliveries that never happened. I gave MFI 10 days to respond and as I did not get a response by the deadline I then just sued them through County Court using Money Claim on-line service. I sued them for over £ 1,000 being my lost time, expenses and cost of replacing handles for some of the furniture that were damaged and they stated they could not replace as spare parts. After the claim was issued by the court I recieved an offer for around 50% of the claim but refused this. Within a few days I received a letter and cheque for the full claim amount. MFI seem reluctant to defend such claims in court and I know of another instance where someone else has also sucesfully sued and received the whole amount claimed. So if as I was your fed up with MFI and waiting on calls and replies to letters from Customer Services I'd suggest this as an option. It worked for me with around 75% of my order value ending up being returned to me and a degree of satisfaction that I had made someone in MFI sit up at last! Hope this helps.0
