Totally new to this but having a go with the HP7100 printer. When I print to plain paper the result is good. Insert photo paper and I loose a lot of detail. Is there something I should do to let the printer know what paper I am using?

Printing on plain paper is a different kettle of fish to printing on photo paper.2

In the manual (I assume you received one with the printer - if not download one) and go to page 28, Chapter 3, Print and see "To print from a computer" 4. It advises adjusting paper type and quality.0
