Reminds me of the other thread about how to get privacy in the garden - the advice generally thought good was to put some personal privacy withing the bounds.
My gasp of astonishment was over ' wall which is about 30cm away from the boundary line'.
Is this an extension? It's almighty close to their garden if it overlooks it. Normally there would be a boundary fence that would reach the height of the normal window in a living room preventing you overlooking your neighbours garden

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

  • Yes it is an extension that replaced a conservatory of the same footprint. The extension is less than a year old.

Does this mean the right to light doesn’t apply?

How old is the property?  I was reading an article which was saying there is a right to light if the property has received daylight for at least 20 years.
  • Property was built in 2007 so not 20 years yet!
  • It doesn't sound like there is anything you can do about this. Rights to light doesn't apply, and even then they probably aren't going to massively restrict your daylight.

Building a pergola, trellice and some nice plants seems decent of them - you'll keep a decent amount of light, you wont have to look at their washing in the garden, and they won't have you looking at their washing. Seems like a win all round.

If they were less considerate, they could plonk a 2.5m shed hard up to the boundary
