Barclaycard Online Payment Problems

Is anybody else having problems using the on-line payment method with Barclaycard ?

According to the 'very helpful' call centre they are currently unable to process on-line payments. They claim to be having technical issues (and must have been having them for nearly a week as I've tried to make the payment 8 times since Thursday). They cannot give me any indication as to when these problems will be resolved.

Am I just being fobbed off with a stock excuse or is anybody else experiencing problems ?

Not sure about Barclaycard problems, but why not make a BACS payment though your banks' online banking.

I notice they have now introduced the Verified By Visa (VbV) system to their online payments service - meaning that you need to have your debit card registered for Verified by Visa in order to pay this way. I'm not sure I want to sign up for VbV as I'm a little concerned about security etc (it asked for card number, signature strip code, date of birth etc).

Am also interested in how to make a BACS payment through online banking, e.g. Barclays online - does anyone know if there is a limit to what you can pay in a single transaction?

To make a payment via any online banking just look at the counterfoil BGC slip at the bottom of your statement.

It will tell you the account number and sort code you'll need to make the payment. Add your own 16 digit card number as the reference. No limits. Voila !!

Thanks for that - I thought that I had read somewhere that Barclays limited online payments to third parties to £1000 a day? Does this vary with other banks or are all bill payments unlimited?

    Many thanks!

As far as I am aware online payments to third parties are limited for all online banks for security reasons and the amount will vary from bank to bank.

    Academic,

Why not setup a direct debit with Barclaycard which means you will never miss a payment and you can change how much you pay each month by calling up customer services a few days after the last payment has been taken from your bank account to change the direct debit amount for your next payment giving you the same flexibility but knowing that you will never have to pay those extortionate late payment fees!:T

Thanks for the replies. I suspect my problems may have something to do with the introduction of Verified by Visa, or to put it another way, I've never had any problems paying on-line before they introduced VbV.

The call centre is useless, they can't tell me what the problem is, they can't tell me how long it is likely to last and they won't give me the telephone number of somebody who can. After insisting on speaking to a succession of 'account managers' they finally decided that they'd waive my minimum payment for this month so that I didn't incur late payment charges (even though I've tried to pay them 8 times). It will be interesting to see what happens next month when I try to make a payment.

I'll have a look at the BACS option for future use.

I had a problem with Barclaycard the other week, they took 2 payments from my debit card! Spent ages on the phone to the call centre in Delhi to get it sorted. Eventually they put the second payment onto my statement.

We make virtually all our purchases by credit card - Barclaycard and one other, and sometimes, if buying capital items, the monthly settlement amount will be more than £1000. As we always settle in full every month, to avoid problems with Barclays internet banking £1000 per transaction limit, we've now arranged with our card providers to take direct debits for the full amount. This also eliminates any accidental late payments if the settlement date falls due while you're away on holiday. We have a good credit record and on various occasions have asked Barclays if they will increase our £1000 maximum daily internet transaction limit but they've always refused, allegedly for fraud security reasons. However, now they've forced us into the Pin Sentry process for all our internet banking processes, this excuse is no longer valid, we may request once again, to have our daily limit increased. Suggest all internet banking users do similarly. If they receive enough requests they might reconsider. (But I'll post this suggestion on another thread).

As this was discussed nearly 3 years ago I expect it is sorted by now:D
