Key replacement car insurance
Hi
By Miles policy cites benefit of key replacement. The benefit is absurd it seems. The cost to me of replacing my Nissan key and fob is less than £200. My excess is £350.
It was in these circumstances that I had thought the benefit to be an inducement to purchase the policy rather naively believing that the condition of the policy assumes replacement of car key without the requirement to submit a claim. In the same way some policies now offer a guarantee that a no fault claim would not impact on ncb. The policy does not transparently state that a replacement key request is a claim against the insurer.
As a now deceased previous chancellor of the exchequer once said 'silly billie' me.

I know replacing a single lock on my Citroen many moons ago was more than £200.
A claim is a claim unless it explicitly states otherwise. The By Miles policybook isnt great though because the key cover is all in the preamble and subject to what they do with compulsory excesses etc it could be open to interpretation but not if its a claim.0 -
if you lose the keys you have to replace the keys and the locks all around the car as the insurer will need to protect the car against the lost keys being used to steal the vehicle. So £200 for the keys is not all of your claim.0

Back in the 1990s replacing one lock on a Ford cost around £20 parts plus labour - You could buy a complete set of locks including ignition for £107 plus fitting.
