What to do with a "Premium Saving Bond" that is 54 years old

Just before our mother died, she presented my sisters who are twins with scrappy slips of paper which have "Premium Savings Bond" printed on them. She explained that there was not much money in the house when they were born but that she wanted them to have a lifetime of luck. The Bonds themselves are only valued at £1 each (which in 1967 must have been a considerable sum to our struggling parents, barely out of their teens and who already had 2 other children by this time). We have no idea whether these Bonds are worth anything or whether they were a pre-cursor of the product we now call a Premium Bond and might have actually won something. Does anyone know how to check either of these two ideas? The Bonds state that they are "Issued by the Lords Commissioners of HM Treasury under Section One of the National Loans Act 1939". There will be no disappointment if they have no value as they are  a lovely reminder of our parents who were clearing trying to do their best for their family.
