Data protection laws to be updated

On Good Morning Brtain (ITV) today, Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, spoke about an upgrade to Data Protection.

This is an ideal time regarding the DVLA.

Could be on catch up .. ITV Hub.

Haven't seen it, but an 'upgrade' can work both ways. From recollection, I think I scanned somewhere that the UK was looking to water down/remove some of the EU 'safeguards'. Will that help or hinder remains to be seen.

Did Oliver Dowden indicate in what direction he was moving on this?
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Will be interesting to watch this. The current system is pretty poor in regards to the DVLA and PPC/ ATAs.

Yes-in particular, (from what I have read on Twitter), Article 22 with regards to removing the "human review" safeguard in respect of Automated individual decision making.

If they're taking the human out of the process then that'll just bolster the robo-claims-model of business. 🙄

  • There needs to be some Human gatekeeping where there are strict guidelines of what the standards are and total transparency, accountability and proportionality and necessity tests are applied. The DVLA etc might think I'm asking too much as that - but then maybe they should put up their prices then to cover the extra work, staff training and decision making systems.  It might put off many PPCs if they are paying £20-30 per lead instead of a meagre £2.50!
