Anyone have experience/expertise in 1.2 petrol engine used in Qashqai

I have seen a reasonably priced 1.2 Qashqai at my local Nissan dealer. It’s a 2015 with 51k miles and two previous owners on at just over £11k.
I spoke with them and made an appointment for tomorrow to view the car. However, I have since done some research and the 1.2 engine seems to have had oil usage and engine failure problems. These all seem to be reports from early on in the the release of the engine in 2014 and 2015 and it would appear not all Qashqais with that engine seem to suffer the issue.
Would anyone here have any insight into the engine? Anything I need to check for or is it a straight no for the 1.2 engine?

That sound like a heck of a lot of money for a 6 year old (basic?) car with a small engine and over 50K on the clock. What was the list price of that car 6 years ago?1

Struggling to get anything from google on the rrp of the car. Due to the insane used car market at the moment the search seems to be overrun by sites selling used cars. May be I haven’t used the right words in the search.
Carbuyer.co.uk seem to have it listed as £27.8k rrp but it doesn’t specifically state which engine that price refers to.
I had a look at the alternatives and this is one of the cheapest in the Thames Valley corridor.0 -

The used car market is mad at the moment. I'd be tempted to buy new.0 -
I've had the 1.2 supercharged engine in a Nissan Note. My advice is don't skimp on oil changes they don't like dirty oil and you should be fine.1

I had a 1.2 Quasi Tekna when that model first came out (2014) until a year ago.
The only issues I ever had were electrical. Heavy rain would interfere with the front parking aids and sound them incorrectly. Easily turned off in the computer but still annoying. I also needed my DAB antenna rerouted through the roof as that played up for a year.
I found the 1.2 fine. I came from GTis and Golf R32s etc. My last 3 cars before the Nissan were all 250hp+. I just modified my driving style.
I'm now in a BMW X4 M40i with nearly 400bhp. Sure the power is nice, the ride is good, the acoustic glass makes things quiet BUT my Nissan top spec Tekna had more gizmos than my £60k BMW (not new, I couldn't afford that kind of money!)
Paid £24k in 2014 for Nissan. Sold for £9400 in 2020 with 20k miles.1 -
I believe Nissan had some issues with this engine for a short time.
I seem to remember one problem was found to be a issue matching pistons to bores.
This engine used a sprayed on, nikasil type bore liner and from a range of pistons varying by microns, pistons should have been matched to the bore after honing.
Turned out not all got a perfect match so some engines left the factory with less than perfect piston to bore clearance.
It's not unusual, though if you sent a similar engine for a replate, you'd send new pistons that the engineers would hone the bore to after replating, but Nissan did it the other way around as it was thought to be cheaper and easier, probably due to many machines honing thousands of bores.
This engine also suffered from some timing chain issues which Nissan buried their head in the sand over for a long time, early owners got pretty angry.
Not sure, but this problem might be related to the one above if it is due to lack of oil because of excessive oil consumption from the mismatched pistons.
The 1.2 Dig-t is identical to the Renault 1.2 TCe, but that particurlar engine didn't really suffer the same problems, may be they were made in different factories??
I've had the 1.2 TCe and now a 1.3 TCe and they've been perfect.

Thank you for all the replies. It’s been really helpful.
So would it be fair to say, given that it is 5 years old now, that if it has survived this long that it most probably wasn’t part of the cars that make up the negative reviews online? As long as oil is checked regularly it should be fine for 2-3 years ownership?0
