what PCR tests/returning from Canary islands

Im returning from the Canary islands back to Gatwick and I am struggling to work out what test to order.-

"Arrivals from Spain (back into the UK) can take an antigen (rapid flow) OR PCR test whilst in Spain."

I can arrange a test locally in Tenerife but I'm unsure what to do on returning home, I think (as i'm fully vaccinated) that I need to do a PCR test within 48 hours google has confused me- any one returned recently that can point me in the right direction?

Thanks. Tim

You need to take a test in Tenerife to come back to UK this can be PCR or antigen test

You also need to take a test when you arrive back in the UK on or before Day 2 , this called a DAY 2 test , it is a PCR test and has to be ordered from a provider on the Gov list : https://www.gov.uk/find-travel-test-provider, you need to purchase this before you return to the UK as the booking reference is needed for the UK passenger locator form which you will need to complete online before returning to the UK .

These rules may have changed by the time you travel , you can keep up to date with the latest rules here : https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain/entry-requirements
  • wonderful -thanks so much. Looks like I can get all this through Tui for £20.

I would hold off booking the Day 2 test too far in advance in case the requirements change.

I'm flying back from Tenerife on 18 Oct so hopefully by then a double vaccination and pre-flight test should be enough but if not then just book one while you are there for delivery for when you get home.

A bit academic now as I ordered it all on Friday, was only £20 and I've heard this morning that it might be scraped altogether soon. Glad I didn't spend more, but all part of the process/cost these days. Hope you have great holiday too!

I recenty travelled back from the Canaries to the UK having done an antigen test prior to flying, even though Government websites mentioned if you were travelling from Spain they recommended a PCR test.  Can anyone tell me the reason for this recommendation?
