Haven’t sold anything or been on these boards for some time now so well out of the loop - so apologies if this has probably been gone through before , Anyway sold a couple of items but they are withholding the payment and want ALL the details for my ( and partners ) current card account which is where our pensions go in . including the security number on the back !! - that can’t be safe surely !! - what’s the alternative to start another separate Bank account ? - and has it to be a Bank Ann’s not a Society ??
Thanks

If this is managed payments then they should just need a bank account that is capable of accepting a direct debit. My private accounts use an old Co Op bank acocunt I manage online, I get paid out every Tuesday as I don't sell enough to be bothered by daily payouts.

With eBay, and most other organisations these days, they obviously need certain details so that you can use your bank account (I'm with Nationwide so I guess building societies are okay?) or credit card for payments with them - they need only three bits of information - your name, card number and the security code on the back. That is ALL they should request. If anybody asks for anything else, tell them where to go. That is safe, yes - they cannot access your bank, or any other, account themselves as they don't have all the relevant information.
If you have internet banking, you can do an instant check on your account too, to ensure that nobody's taking anything they shouldn't. If you also have the banking app on your phone, you can check your balance and transactions - even pending ones - in less than five minutes. I love my app!
I hope that's helpful and that I haven't confused matters even more! Basically, you will be fine, as long as you only disclose the three pieces of information. Happy shopping! Or selling? Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. ThanksIt's fairly standard. Nothing's 100% safe but you should be protected. If you ever use the card in a shop they extract the same amount of informationYou can use from a bank account or building society..0
