Girona - cheap hotel?

Hi,
I've managed to get cheap flights with Ryanair to Girona, but web searches provide a very limited number of hotels and all more than I would like to pay. I'm travelling mid-July for 2 nights, and would appreciate any recommendations - hotels you've stayed in, etc.
Thanks a million :)

We got a good deal with Expedia but we went in January, July might be different.

Thanks for that, they are showing cheaper than any other reservation sites. There seems to be a limited no of hotels on any site, with Peninsular coming up cheapest at £75 for 2 people, 2 nights. Has anyone else stayed there?

Are you going to Girona on purpose? I didn't like it very much. Cadaquez is lovely though, a short drive away.

They were the cheapest flights we could find for the dates we wanted. A friend had to spend a night/day there when his flight was delayed, he said he liked the place but can't remember anything about his hotel other than it was near the bus/train station.

Honestly, Cadaquez is so lovely, and well worth hiring a car to go there. If I won the lottery I'd buy an apartment there in a heartbeat.

A quick search on https://www.hotelscomparison.com shows 2* hotel for £33 per rm,3* for around £46 per room, 4* for £75 per rm per night. Quite reasonable for the time of year.
You could possibly widen your search to "Costa Brava" which may throw up a few in Callela,Lloret etc

I loved Girona. a lovely old town and nice to wander about and get lost in. We hired a car too as there are lots of lovely places worth visiting nearby - and not all of them are on the coast, though try to do the drive along the coast from Calella to Tossa, that was stunning. Our hotel was the Costabella - I think! We used Holidayautos for a car and the company they use at the airport even gave us a choice of car makes.

For around 10 pounds return you can get to Barcelona by coach. Well worth it!

Thanks all for the advice. I don't think we'll leave Girona, although if we find we've covered it all in one day then we may go to Barca on day 2 and make our way to the airport from there.
My main problem with hotel searches (incl. hotelscomparison) is that they return hotels that are 30/40km away from Girona town. As our flight gets in at 11.00pm, we really didn't want the hassle of too much onward travel at that time of night. I know we can get a bus from the airport into Gerona itself at either 11.30 or half past midnight, and it only takes half an hour.
    Thanks anyway.
