Kids Testing Positive And Shared Custody

I have had a little look online and can't find a straight answer...

What happens if a child tests positive for Covid at one parents house but is then due to go to the other parents house? Is it ok for them to go or should they isolate at the first parents house the entire time?

  • Brilliant. Thanks
  • It'd be really (really!) silly to share contact with a known positive case - be it a child or adult.
IMO it should be treated the same as any other positive case - they isolate with the people they live with and have no outside contact.

This happened to my sister the other week when her daughter tested positive whilst stopping at her dads.

My niece had to remain with her dad for the isolation period, my sister felt awful for doing that but she is a childminder and absolutely would not risk the health and safety of those she cares for.

It’s a difficult position when sharing custody but as Matty has pointed out it would be be very silly to have contact with a positive case unless absolutely necessary.
  • Luckily the child in question tested negative despite showing all the covid symptoms.

Both parents work and are double vaccinated and so neither would need to isolate themselves. The child was at Dads and staying there for a further 10 days would have been impossible as Dad couldn't afford the time off work, he literally lives hand to mouth. Mum could work from home the majority of the time though if needed so moving the child back there would have been better for everyone.

But as I said, no positive test so crisis avoided.

Some employers are taking a nuanced view. Mine doesn’t want staff on site if they are a close contact of a positive case, even if the employee has received both vaccines.
