Electoral roll address format

Hi,

I have been at my current address for 5 years and on the electoral roll for 4 years.

My problem started when trying to use klarna who kept saying they couldn't verify my address. After trying every format I ended up raising a query with Experian as it wasn't right under the electoral roll section there to. They told me how it is displayed there. I adjusted the address with klarna and it worked. Now another company has declined an application because my address doesn't match. After checking with all 3 CRA's Im on the electoral roll as just the building number not the flat number.

Experian have told me to add a variation of my address but if the electoral roll provide the wrong format this is going to cause problems in the future.

I have contacted the electoral roll office for my area and was basically told it's not there problem.

Im not sure where to go next as my options are either always have to type my addres manually going forward or chance it.

Has any one had any experience with this sort of issue before?

Many thanks,

  • Double check your council tax bill and see how they have your address.

My council have it one way and royal mail another way. I've input my details the RM way with all my bank accounts, mobile etc. Only one CRA has twigged both addresses are the same and said I'm on the electoral roll.

Originally Registers of Scotland had the address the same way as the council, however they changed it to the RM way when the property was registered to me.

    The variations:
    Floor and location, building number.
    Building number (silly utility company).
    Floor, location, letter, building number.
    Letter, building number.
    Building number, letter.
    Flat, letter, building number.

I've applied for, and obtained, a current account and finance. The finance company have put my address in a different format.

I have looked into getting the council to change their format, but I'm not prepared to pay for it. I've kept my CT as a paper bill and retain my voting cards, just in case I'm ever asked for proof I'm on the electoral roll.

  • Hi,

I have checked with the council and they confirmed that the format flat no, building no street name is correct.

I've not had problems before this only started after the most recent confirm your still at the property for the electoral roll thing that comes out.

Basically everyone has it the council way the only people who don't are the electoral roll and they basically refuse to help after asking them to amend it to the way the council have it.

    Thanks,
  • The council / ER are the same, with the same records and the address details should match each other.

I was told by one CRA to send a copy of my voting card or proof of being on the ER and they would update their system. I declined this as it would mess up all my financial records.

Perhaps you should send the info if everything else matches.
