John Lewis credit card

I have attempted to keep my John Lewis Partnership Card within my credit limit by clearing the balance on a weekly basis so I can use it to get points to use at Waitrose. Now I get messages saying that there is a restriction on how many debit card payments can be made in 30 days, and the payments are refused. It also refuses to accept payments from either of my bank accounts, one being First Direct which is operated by HSBC which also operates the JLPC

Whats your limit? What balance are you getting to when clearing it weekly?

Receiving payments costs them money so they won't want you making loads of them. You'll need to work out a better route that requires less frequent repayments.
  • Hi
Thought I would replace my Tesco Credit Card with the JLP one so the starting limit was £1,000 compared to £15,500 from Tesco. Because I travel a lot my average spend is £1,500 monthly and I anticipated getting loads of money off my weekly Waitrose shopping with all the points I would earn. Always clear the fully balance but obviously trying to be clever and perhaps greedy hasn't worked. Appreciate your reply though, didn't realise it cost them money to receive payments.

For how long have you had John Lewis card? Perhaps it's time to ask for credit limit increase?

What happened when you did this:

To make a payment through your online banking
You will need to log in to your Bank or Building Society online account and select the option for making a payment. Follow the instructions on screen to enter the correct details.

You will need our bank details and the 16 digit Partnership Card number of the Primary Card Holder as the payment reference:

    • Sort code: 40-63-02
    • Account number: 10000000

Always make sure you use the 16-digit Partnership Card number of the primary card holder as the payment reference.

Limits to the number of debit card payments you can make to a credit card have started to be introduced recently, probably thanks to TSB giving you £5 when you make 30 debit card transactions in a month (for the first six of opening an account).
