Paying taxes/investments with Clubcard Pay?

I usually use my Tesco current account debit card to pay my taxes and pay into my investment account, for the points.

What with the current account closing, I was wondering if anyone has anyone has tried to pay HMRC with the Clubcard Pay card yet?

If the real question is will you still get the points then the answer is no, those sort of transactions are specifically excluded.
  • Thanks for your answer. I wasn't making a secret of my interest in the points.
It looked like they were supposed to be excluded from the current account transactions as well by the "paying for bills at banks or other financial institutions" clause - but I've certainly got points for these transcations.
I do see that they mention savings accounts and share dealing services for Pay, but not HMRC that's why I asked if anyone has actually tried it.
  • Best advice is try it yourself and if it works don't tell anyone
  • I was a little worried that it might not be very well (FSCS) protected, but looks like MSE seems to think otherwise.
I'll have to give it a go in January then, and not report back :D

They are specifically excluded on the existing Tesco debit card as well, but for some sites while you don't get standard clubcard points on the actual clubcard, you do get clubcard points from the debit card. I have paid tens of thousands into HL Active Savings and banked many many clubcard points so there are exceptions. Never tried with HMRC

From the debit card clubcard T&Cs :
While you can collect Clubcard points on most of your debit card transactions, there are some exclusions, including: payments from your current account (like standing orders and Direct Debits), in-store cash deposits and refunds. Other transactions where Clubcard points can’t be collected include; paying for bills at banks or other financial institutions, withdrawing cash at an ATM, using your card for purchasing travel money, wire transfers and purchasing foreign currency. There are also some products at Tesco you can’t collect points on, find out more at the Tesco Clubcard website.
The main difference between the normal debit card and pay card are the following two additions
If you pay funds into savings accounts including NS&I accounts
When you purchase shares or make a deposit into a share-dealing account
So the tax one could be a toss up which way it falls, the investment account was OK for the debit card but specifically excluded from the pay account card.
