Emergency Dentist?

Family member has had severe toothache for several days now, and getting worse. He does not have a dentist. He phoned 111 for an emergency referral and saw a dentist yesterday. Dentist said the tooth is fractured and will definitely break off/split at the root if she tries to remove it.

She referred him to a more specialised dentist, who she said will ring him today. They have not rang, so he rang them. They said they have the referral and will call him back shortly. They still have not called and now the number is constantly engaged. He is in a lot of pain and his face is swollen.

Please does anyone know what else he can do?

You may be better posting this on the Health and Beauty board - though off the top of my own, [very much non-expert] head if they have the referral and are trying to fit him in, I doubt there is anything more he can do.  Dentists are still working through huge backlogs in some parts of the country.

If you've got a local dental hospital, it's possibly worth calling them to ask about emergency treatment.

In my experience, private dentists are much better than NHS dentists. You often get same day appointments and get through to a practice right away in 3-4 rings.

I would hope that their toothache has now all be sorted because you've commented on a thread that's almost 4 months old.
