Which company is doing most to build new green generation?
The current energy crunch this week has made me consider where my electric comes from. Who is doing the most to develop energy solutions? It seems there is loads of investment in solar and wind but on days like today I feel like even being with Scottish power for example isn’t helping ? Or am I missing something

The biggest single green energy project I'm aware of is EDF's Hinkley Point C, but that generates strong opinions in both directions.

Most suppliers are not energy producers. They just buy in energy and sell it on. Companies like SP are both suppliers and generators. Other companies like Octopus; Good Energy and Ecotricity are linked to green generation. For example, Octopus has recently set up Octopus Renewables.0

I've no doubt that you'll be pleased to know tha due to the lack of wind, the National Grid (or whatever they call themselves nowadays) have brough one of the last two remaining coal fired stations back on line - if they'e had to do this during the autumn months then it doesn't bode well for the winter. Just sayingNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

Yep, let’s all just hope we don’t have a high pressure system sit over the UK for a week or two this winter, rolling power cuts here we come.matelodave said:I've no doubt that you'll be pleased to know tha due to the lack of wind, the National Grid (or whatever they call themselves nowadays) have brough one of the last two remaining coal fired stations back on line - if they'e had to do this during the autumn months then it doesn't bode well for the winter. Seven tariffs from Good Energy were placed into the Gold category, while British Gas' Green Future May 2023v2 tariff also achieved Gold status.
Seven green tariffs from ScottishPower, one from EDF and one from Octopus were placed in the Silver category, while a further 98 tariffs from different suppliers achieved Bronze status.

Does that include nuclear or you happy for the lights to go at night when there is no wind? Remember, not all supposedly Green suppliers are truly green. Ofgem currently has an ongoing investigation into the use of REGO certificates.barker77 said:Totally understand all points above- who should I join to try and influence a faster coal/gas free future then?
