Nationwide joint savings

I wonder if anyone has any ideas why Nationwide would still be refusing to add someone as a joint account holder? Background - My hubby and I have two joint current accounts with Nationwide and he has a Savings account in his sole name. I’ve been asking Nationwide for an appointment to make to Savings account joint. The first excuse was Covid (although they offered for me to become a “third party” 🤷♀️) Now they are telling me it’s Nationwide policy, but we can open a new joint account online if we want to. Anyone know why we can’t just make the existing account joint?
Thanks to all who post comps :A :T

No idea why they'd have such a policy but, especially given that their savings products aren't particularly competitive, why not just vote with your feet and put the money with a provider who's interested?1

Fair comment, in truth, the savings there are likely to be spent on Home improvements in the next few months so interest isn’t the biggest driver. It’s just a complete pain that I don’t have access to the funds and making the account t joint (which is a process of a few minutes as I’m an existing customer) seemed the easiest option.I just can’t understand Nationwide’s short sighted attitude 🙄Thanks to all who post comps :A :T0

Well if it's his solo savings account they shouldn't/won't talk to you to about making it joint.
And if you're not bothered by low interest rates, and it's for home improvements why not just use one of the joint acs?2 -
As soulsaver says, the obvious answer to your question, if indeed it's you asking to make your partner's account joint, is that it's not your account to make requests about.
But I'd just bypass all that and just do as Nwide suggest, open a new joint account online. And, if you really don't want a single account anymore, just close the single. No point in making life difficult if the solution to the problem is there.0 -
If interest isn't the biggest driver, and if you would be content with the tiny amount of interest you can earn in a Nationwide savings account, why not just get your partner to transfer the money to one of your joint current accounts?0
