Motorcycle Insurance - Laid Up Cover ?!

The insurance firm will no longer insure on fire and thefy basis only - licence was given back to dvla due to fit / blackout and insurance firm adjusted for remainder of policy - but now at renewal stage can not find any firm who will insure two motorbikes (garaged) on fire and theft cover only. Can not have third party fire and theft as you need to have a licence to have this cover. Anyone have any experience with similar problem / solution? Thanks

sorry to hear of predicament, you must be gutted. Have you spoken to your home insurance company, bikes may be covered for fire and theft while contained within your garage. Most other things in garage are covered whilst securely locked within your 'home'. Worth a phone call. good luck

Very unlikely to be covered under your standard home contents policy, as motor vehicles are specifically excluded. May be worth a call to see if they will quote for a specific extension of cover, but don't hold your breath - it's very unlikley!

Afraid that I've got no better suggestions.

Hi - Insurance2000 in Aberdeen say they can arrange contents insurance including laid up cover on bikes and believe Roadsure can arrange laid up cover as a separate policy.

Best of luck andhope you are allowed to ride your bikes before long.
  • Thanks - Home insurance may as well as laughed at me! But thanks for the reply and thought. I will try Insurance2000 and Roadsure... Also understand that Alexander Forbes (link from ACU) may be able to help or Biketeam but neither of these open at weekends. Failing that, call to the BMF... FSA....... Cheers.
  • Insurance2000 is also company called H & R based in Scotland - they could not help, but I have to say they were the only company out of about 20 I phoned today who actually tried to help, sounded like he knew what he was talking about and provided sympathy!

Roadsure are based in Northampton (not far from me) and having looked at my long list I had already spoken to them - they did however recommend a company called Richard Weston on 0208-543-6166 but when I phoned the number the answerphone message seemed a bit strange and the clicks went on forever so did not bring much confidence but may try them in the week.

Footman James I will try as well.

    Cheers.
