Activating Windows7 on old laptop and other questions?

Given the age and upgrade my expectation is that mydefrag will make a significant difference. Don't hang around waiting for it, though, overnight is the likely expectation for the first run duration given the history.

No need to worry about mydefrag not getting updates any more. Like all Windows defragmenters worth using it uses the Windows own defragmentation API and that handles thigs safely regardless. I currently use it on a 14TB spinning disk amongst others with Windows 10.

Please do let us know how things go with the various things, feedback on what produces good or not worthwhile difference is good to have to help tune future suggestions.

It is now running just fine. My friend has collected the laptop and is very happy to have a reasonably fast laptop again. I set everything up for her including her new printer.

I am also very happy with the bottle of Jura Single Malt whisky that she gave me for helping.
