Vaccine for children living with vunerable adults

Options
Good evening.
I am after some help please if you don't mind
I am classed as a vulnerable adult having been sent a letter from my G.P that I needed to shield previously in the year.
I understand from the BBC news that my daughter age 14 is already elligable to have her Covid vaccine as she fits the criteria of living with a vunerable adult.
Unfortunately everytime I contact my G.P I am constantly told that they are awaiting guidelines from the government and she's not presently elligable.
Can anyone please kindly advise what the situation is as I'm not sure what to do as I'm being told one thing by by G.P and another by BBC reporters.
Thank you very much.
Kind regards.

Currently the only healthy children in the 12 - 15 age group who are recommended for vaccination are those who have a household member who is immunosuppressed - not just "vulnerable adult",  do you fall into that category ?  If so that advice has been circulating since July so you likely need to query this further up the chain rather than at the point of delivery.

I’m sure they will tighten up on the criteria this year, after the situation in the first round of vaccines where anyone who wanted to be vaccinated early claimed to be the carer for next door’s aunt’s sister’s cousin.

With the manic obsession of getting as many people injected as possible, I doubt very much they'll tighten things up.
This space has been intentionally left blank
  • @funnymonkey did you get a letter about children in your household over 12 being eligible for the vaccine ? My son got one several weeks ago.
As there are no children in the household he didn’t do anything so I cannot say how his gp handled it .

Sadly I didn't. Been to my doctors and they say they're not vaccinating anyone younger than 16 regardless of medical conditions of the parent which I hasten to add that I'm at the same surgery so easy for them to check my records to show I'm immunosuppressed.
What's the point of having government guidelines on the NHS site if doctors totally ignore it.
  • P.S thank you everyone for your replies. A great help. Thanks

In this situation it's easier to check validity. If a child is registered at the address of someone immunosuppressed as in my case with me being a single working father then all they need to do is check my medical records.

Have you contacted your local CCG about this? They may at least be able to give you the rationale behind this decision, assuming it's one made at that level. I've always found the CCG to be really helpful when my GP surgery are being "interesting".

That’s fine if the GP is making an appointment for you. I was referring to people turning up at walk in vaccine clinics with spurious claims. Vaccine clinics don’t have access to patient medical records, only data to verify a patient and add vaccine details to the vaccine database.
