M74 Annandale Services - Parking Fine

Firstly I'm not particularly familiar with motorways having infrequently driven distance on them that I'd need to use motorway services - I wouldn't use a service station for fuel or food unless I had to.
I was moving house and hired a large van, and stopped at these services for a sleep when I started to struggle about 2/3rds through the journey. As I moved house it has taken this ticket over 90 days to come to me, so my right to appeal has expired AFAIK.
Anyway I have viewed these services on google maps and whilst the main entry clearly states all vehicles must pay after 2hrs (a sign I never noticed as I was entering the car park). As I was in a large van I didn't park in the car section, instead parking in the truck/caravan section. In the car park I parked in, the sign only mentioned charging HGV's a fee after 2hrs - no mention of any other vehicle. In my naivety I have assumed that parking was free for all vehicles except HGV - which at least in my mind, sort of makes sense - and proceeded to sleep with this knowledge fully thinking I was absolutely fine. I remember this quite clearly as I had parked, quite literally, in front of the sign.
My total stay in the carpark was 2hrs 8 minutes, which I also purchased food and coffee and my bank statement can prove this.
Can anyone advise on what is the best way forwards, as I feel this charge is grossly unfair.

This parking event took place in Scotland.
