Driving licence sent to old address? MISSING!

Hi all,

I went to the post office to replace my driving licence back on 21st July 2021. I unexpectedly had to move house on 15th August 2021 so I set up Royal Mail to redirect all of my mail to my new address.

My old LL text me saying I have post at the old address, which I suspect may be my driving licence. I went round today and the new tenants (who were in) refused to answer the door. My old LL is not responding either.

I have no idea what to do as my job requires me to drive and I'm at risk of losing my job if I cannot get my licence.

Would Royal Mail have delivered it to the old address even if I set up redirecting? And wouldn't I need to sign for it considering its my identity?

Thanks for any help/advice

there's effectively no 'signed for' deliveries these days due to Covid.
From the sound of it it should have been redirected but that can take a few days to set up and as far as I'm aware it only works if the name on the envelope matches the one that you've indicated on the redirection notice.

Thanks for the help. So effectively my ID has been compromised? Do you have any idea where I go from here?

If you are confident that it is the driving licence that's been delivered, and that the new tenants definitely aren't going to be co-operative in returning it to you, then all I can suggest is that you need to report it to the DVLA as lost/stolen.

You're still licensed to drive even if you don't physically have your licence in your possession, even if you need to prove entitlement to drive you can share your details electronically now.
It doesn't mean you shouldn't be concerned about getting hold of it though.

....in which case you're obliged to notify DVLA and obtain a replacement licence with the correct address anyway.

I take your point about the ID risk of not being able to get hold of the original one but don't really think there's going to be much point in pursuing that.

Royal Mail need 5 working days to   set up redirection

DVLA have a massive post back log.
Depending on why you needed the new licence you can check  what date pf post DVLA are working on

Thank you for this. I actually set up the redirection 2 weeks before I left the old flat so there should be no crossover. I guess its only been 6 weeks since I sent the paper application at Royal Mail so it may take longer. Thanks for the help
