Royal mail problems again

Due to my issues with Royal Mail I have documented elsewhere when I have to use Royal mail I now print out labels either from ebay, paypal, etsy or click and drop - record them on a bulk proof of posting form and manually get them checked in over the counter at a Post office or the mail centre.
Yesterday I printed labels as usual in the morning, dropped them off in the afternoon and have a stamped POP. I now have a worried buyer who says their item shows as delivered via 'tracking' (this is a standard parcel so delivery confirmation only) yet it hasn't been. Looking at the tracking it shows label provided in the morning and then in the afternoon, about half an hour after I dropped them off it shows as delivered. Obviously I have re assured the buyer - but there is definitely something wrong in the system somewhere.
EDIT just had another message from buyer, apparently they spent some time on phone with RM yesterday, and even got a manager to call them back- and was told that this was definitely delivered and that seller had obviously misdirected it for some reason - the fact that it went half way across England in a matter of hours seems to have escaped RM employees. Luckily buyer is now happier although angry at RM now and not me and I have my fingers crossed this arrives quickly next week.

I have had this before. Did you drop it off at a mail centre / delivery office as I believe they can "deliver" an item with their handset so someone with big fingers...
My item was delivered from the delivery office where I dropped it off then moved on through the system as normal.

Not exactly the same but yesterday we had a delivery confirmation e-mail of a parcel that definitely hadn't arrived - checked with the neighbour, hunted all round outside the house but everyone was home at the supposed delivery time, and our postman always knocks loudly enough and would have left it on the doorstep because he'd have known we were home as both cars were here.

RM help page did say that it a supposedly delivered parcel really couldn't be located, it could be a 'rare scanning error' and to wait a day to see if it was then delivered before contacting them. Lo and behold, it turned up today. Bizarre.0 -

It wont have any impact on the items journey and 'should' update with new delivered data once correctly scanned0 -
The data on the customer site isnt as detailed as the intranet.Spoonie_Turtle said:Not exactly the same but yesterday we had a delivery confirmation e-mail of a parcel that definitely hadn't arrived - checked with the neighbour, hunted all round outside the house but everyone was home at the supposed delivery time, and our postman always knocks loudly enough and would have left it on the doorstep because he'd have known we were home as both cars were here.

so for example a postie miscans an item delivered, then rescans the item correctly. The customer tracking will often say delivered whereas the intranet will show the scans after delivery1
