Problem - When is an SVT tariff not an SVT tariff ?
I monitor the energy bills of the widow of a late friend of mine - Big house, all electric with Ground Scourced heat pump which works well - Annual Kw consumption 14,700.
Slight problem in that the lady is French and wants to use the home team, hence EDF has been the supplier since house built and when the last fixed tariff expired in May 2020 I found her a reasonable EDF deal on the "hidden tariffs" available only on the Comparison Sites.
This tariff expired at the end of May, and with the market in a shambles I felt it better to do nothing so that she dropped onto EDF's SVT tariff, (19.68p per Kwh), that was actually cheaper than any of their Fixed Term offers
This account is via a Smart Meter with 6 monthly billing, April till October and October till April, and with a new bill due soon I visited her account on the web and found that at some point not specified, they changed the SVT Kwh cost to 21.56p a Kwh
My understanding is that Ofgem adjust the Price Cap twice a year - April & October - and the figures they produce are the maximum suppliers can charge on Standard Variable Account until Ofgem say otherwise
So what have I missed or are EDF bending the rules?

What was the ‘some point’ ? The Cap is not just the unit price: it includes the standing charge. It is therefore possible to increase the unit price and reduce the standing charge and stay within the Cap. I would assume that if the changes do not disadvantage existing customers if COULD be done without notice. Are you sure that she wasn’t informed of the change?0

Is the lady in the South East region? The 21,56p rate doesn't come into effect until 1st October 2021.0
