Avoid paying £1.59 a month to store photos in Google without deleting everything!

This is a great suggestion! Ive just tried, and yes, photos I am deleting from Google Photos are turning up in the bin for the iPhone photos. - Annoyingly it includes photos I already deleted from the iPhone, so it means I have to edit all over again. The plus is that photos are not lost forever when deleted from Google Photos.0

PS the hassle almost makes it worth paying the £1.59 a month for extra storage! But that’s over £18 a year, which I could spend instead on something nicer than Google storage. I’m going to persevere for a bit and see if I can get the Google storage reduced.0

Many thanks! This Forum is so helpful and I really appreciate it. I now have a plan!
I explored Settings, and discovered I can sync favourites across from the iPhone gallery. So I can favourite all the photos I edited there and delete everything from Google Photos that isn’t a favourite. After doing that and reducing my storage use, I am going to uninstall Google Photos from my phone as suggested. And also back up what’s on the iPhone.I just prefer not to spend that £1.59 a month.0 -
Google is set to sync with your iCloud. If you delete them from Google and leave them in iCloud they will just resync. Uninstall Google photos from your iPhone and sort your Google photos on a PC.
That leaves you able to sort your Photos within iCloud via the phone and any you take from then on will not be saved to Google.

If you go into WhatsApp settings you can turn this off.1 -

If you go into WhatsApp settings you can turn this off.
My wife receives numerous WhatsApp messages containing stupid videos (usually cats or dogs) all of which take up storage space. She got a warning of low storage and I ended up removing over 5gb worth of these videos, some of which appeared 4 or 5 times. Even worse they were also backed up on Google drive!
I've changed the settings accordingly!

It sounds to me like you have the setting in google photos turned on that allows the google photos app to delete photos from your apple (and iCloud) photo library. If you turn this off you should be able to delete any/all photos in google photos via the google photos app without affecting photos in iCloud.2
