Wall paint sprayer?

My whole house has just be plastered so need to paint it now. Has anyone got any experience of using a sprayer?

The cheap ones that you buy I believe are rubbish so was thinking of hiring an airless version.

What the thoughts on these? Are they worth it or shall I just use a roller?

  • I used one of these when our house had been replastered;

Not cheap- but it paid for itself with the time saving alone. Took me a couple of days to paint the full house, walls and ceilings.

I wouldn’t recommend this however unless your house is completely empty. The marketing bumf claims that there is no overspray, which is not true!

If you do end up investing, I would recommend practicing on some offcuts of plasterboard before you commit to the job. There is definitely a technique to it!

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm thinking to buying it to do the mist coats in the whole house. Currently only have skirting boards in the rooms so masking shouldn't be too bad.

How much overspray does it do? Will it suitable for different colours? Just wondering if it'll be worthwhile for colours or not if it produces a large overspray.

If it’s just skirting to mask, then I don’t see it being a problem at all.

There is overspray, but it’s not significant. If you’re careful you could keep it to a minimum, it’s very much down to the operator! However I guess it depends on how bright the colour is as to how acceptable it would be. You could always cut in with a brush and then spray the rest?

Having said all that, even if you used it for mist coat only I’d say it was a worthwhile investment. You could always clean it up and sell it once you’re finished.

    Thanks, great info again.

It's currently £255 from the Toolstation eBay shop so highly tempted to get it .

As you say, hope it will save a huge amount of time just on the mist coats.

I'd use a decent roller, pole and paint scuttle but if you go down the sprayer route I'd be interested to know how you get on.
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.

It definitely will, it’s really a breeze once you get going. It comes into its own when you’re doing ceilings - just point in the air and walk backwards and forwards haha.

Did you buy the extension to do the ceilings?
  • No, my ceilings aren’t particularly high so didn’t need it. I held the gun slightly above my head and walked backwards and forwards at a steady pace.

Thanks. Slippery slope this, I've started to the look at the 250m model. Main advantage seems to be it has a pressure control which may come in handy.
