I can relate to you in a couple of ways. I’m terrible at keeping in touch with people and have sort of seasonal friends rather than lifetime ones. Plus most people my age are married and have kids. I’m also saving for a house deposit and it seems like a long road at times....wishing you luck with it all
  • Hi

Thanks badmemory and lantanna for your comments. I’ve not thought about getting a BTL atm, my brother had one and had all manner of issues so I’m a bit reluctant to do anything like that, certainly in the short term anyway. It’ll be something to consider for the future.

Today has been a quiet day, I’ve not achieved what I was aiming for but I had forgotten that we were babysitting one of my nieces for most of the afternoon. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

  • Hi

Urghh, have had a few really bad days with my head this week, so have done very little. Mainly knitting (which I can do without looking at it), watching a bit of tv and sleeping.

I have a busy few days coming up, osteopath tomorrow first thing, then shopping and then waiting in for veg box delivery and painting new fence panels before they’re put in by my brothers over the weekend. Saturday I’ve booked an eye test, using a free test voucher from work, as eyesight seems to be acting funny so unsure if it’s migraine aura or failing eyesight. I’m hoping for a quiet day on Sunday and then have appointment for flu jab on Monday (again free due to voucher from work).

Am hoping I get a good result at Slimming World this weekend as I have been really good, within my syns every day but one (and was only 3 syns over that day). Meals all planned for next week too.

  • Hi just stopping by to say hi and wish you well for your journey. My OH has a brain condition and has all kinds of effects including migraines and extreme fatigue. We've definitely seen the effects on relationships - people expect the surgeries to have 'fixed' the problem and aren't great at dealing with the fact they didn't/can't. It's been really tough navigating the social side of things e.g. needing to cancel last-minute or bailing early but it's shown which friendships are more than just happenstance and proximity. The advice to test the waters with a couple of friends sounds, even if it results in the odd zoom call or casual coffee for now. My OH found having to be the one who initiated contact for a while, which wasn't always easy, but it did mean they were in control and would do what they could handle, when they could handle it.

  • Hi

Thanks Hazelnutty for your comments, I will definitely sort out contacting people to see if something can be started up.

Sorry for being MIA for a few weeks, my head has been pretty bad and I’ve had some time of not coming onto the MSE forum. Am now all caught up and ready to get posting and trying to be productive again. Over that time I have:

    • Won £25 on Premium Bonds
    • Had eye test and spent several hundred pounds on new glasses as my eyesight has changed in both eyes - one is slightly worse than it was, the other is significantly better
    • Got slimmer of the week and won weekly raffle both in the same week at Slimming World, so I have loads of SW friendly stuff to eat
    • Progressed some crafting projects, in particular finishing a “poncho” which covers my neck and shoulder area so should help keep me warm over the winter

I’ve probably done more than just those few items but can’t think at the moment. I’m hoping to go through my SW recipe books tomorrow and look out some different things to eat, and I want to go out for a bit of a walk and possibly make a start on going through my clothes to work out what I fit into atm, what is a little bit small for me and what is massively too small for me.

  • Hi

Quiet day here today, going through SW recipe books and local walk books to get a better idea of what I have. Other than that and catching up on stuff on Sky+ planner, I’ve not done anything really.

Tomorrow I need to prep what we had in the last veg box and prep what we get in tomorrow’s veg box. Am also trying to work out a basic budget for next year, not got very far with it but made a start at least. Might spend half hour or so out doing some weeding and tidying in garden to make use of dry weather.

  • Hi

Sorry for not posting for a couple of days. Have just been out for a wonderful meal with a load of my family for my brother’s birthday, which was lovely. The last time I’d seen a couple of them was two years ago, so just seeing them was such a treat. Loads of pics were taken so can’t wait for them to be shared!!

Other than that it’s been a fairly quiet couple of days. I have an osteopath appointment tomorrow morning and then have shopping to do but will try to go out for a wander and maybe get out in the garden if I can.

Hope anyone reading this had a lovely weekend too.

    Night, B x

That is one real positive we can take from lockdown Betharooni.  Seeing people we haven’t been able to see for such a long time has been really uplifting, and was something many of us (me definitely) probably took for granted before COVID  came along

  • Absolutely @AntoMac, I definitely took seeing family, extended family and friends for granted before, and am desperate to get visiting everyone again. I’m still fairly cautious and haven’t been on any holidays or visits yet (beyond seeing immediate local family) and I’m still mask-wearing, etc. I’m meant to be back in my office up in London from the beginning of November, which I am nervous about, mainly for the travelling up on the train.

Again, it’s been a fairly quiet few days. I’m currently going through all of my toiletries so I can start taking an active role on the ‘No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries’ page, as I have probably gone a bit crazy over the last few months. I have a few make-up items to buy ahead of going back to the office and want to look round for another eco-friendly deodorant as the one I recently tried aggravated my underarms but shouldn’t need to buy too much else for the rest of this year. If anyone has recommendations re deodorant, I’d be very grateful.

I’m starting back working from this Friday, having been signed off for about two months. Am feeling a bit anxious about it, although I don’t know why. My anxiety flares up like this every so often, am sure it will calm down after Friday 😕

Am busy making a cardigan for the eldest of my nieces so will sign off and get back to that.

If you've been off sick for a couple of months would it be possible to ask if you can continue to work from home for a few months until you feel able to travel into London?  I can understand your misgivings because a lot of people are not mask wearing on the trains even though the transport companies have said it's obligatory!  It is really annoying.  I'm just glad I don't have to work any more (been retired 11 years now and certainly don't miss it other than the money!).
