Warranty Issue - Vauxhall Mokka

Hello All,
Will try and keep this brief ! . Bought Vauxhall Mokka at Truro dealership on 26/4/2021. On 25/5/2021 the clutch would not work ( only when engine switched off )
Contacted Vauxhall who arranged collection from our house. Called 2 days later to say they could not find any faults with the clutch and was now working fine . We
collected the vehicle and on 25/8/2021 we has the same problem. This rime we were out so called the AA who came and said there was a problem with the clutch. He took
our car to the dealership at Truro. We then get a call from them to say there is a problem the slave cylinder had leaked and corroded the clutch. They said however head office
had refused to pay for it to be fixed as it was not covered under the Warranty. There was 40000 miles on the clock.
Has anybody got any advice on how to proceed. Thank You.

    Not "checked", "changed"...

The clutch uses the same type of fluid as brakes. It should be changed every two years or so, unless the water level in it is monitored, because it's hygroscopic - it absorbs moisture. That causes things like brake calipers and clutch slaves to rust from the inside out, and leak...

It's rarely part of a routine service schedule, because two years might be 5k miles or 50k miles.

Have they already stripped it down and removed the gearbox  to see that the clutch mechanism is corroded? If the slave cylinder is leaking then surely that part is under warranty. While they have it stripped and replacing couldn’t you just pay for a clutch kit? On the balance of probability, for the clutch mechanism to corrode as a result of this it must have been leaking before purchase.

Might be worth looking here https://www.mokkaownersclub.co.uk There seems to be quite a lot of posts on there about dodgy Mokka clutches.

What does the warranty say about the clutch?

I’d be arguing it’s a genuine failure i.e. it’s not worn out .. which would usually be excluded.

Assuming it is the Vauxhall extended warranty, what level of warranty is it?
  • Even out of warranty they should contribute to the cost. The clutch should last longer than that, especially if it was serviced according to the manufacturer schedule by the dealer.
